Minnesota, USA

Developed by the University of Minnesota, patented 1988. Bred specifically for crispness and flavor — its cells are larger than most varieties, which is why each bite feels like it bursts with juice. Now the official state fruit of Minnesota.

Everyone talks about this one. It's basically the reason half the new apple varieties exist — SugarBee, Cosmic Crisp, they're all Honeycrisp's descendants. Mine wasn't very red, which probably explains why the sweetness didn't fully show up. The crunch and the juice were there though. You could feel what the fuss is about.

Alicia:The texture lives up to the reputation. The sweetness, on this one, didn't quite.
